It seems like CMS initiatives come fast and furious and ignoring them comes with peril. Some physician groups will see a 1% payment decrease on all Part B claims starting January 1, 2012 because they failed to report on e-Prescribing or to claim one of the exemptions. In order to survive and thrive in the coming years, physician groups need to know what’s on CMS’s agenda.

Invest just 90-minutes to hear Betsy Nicoletti give you the inside scoop on CMS plans for 2012.

The agenda:
  • Incentive programs/penalties
  • Last call to claim an e-Prescribing exemption for e-Prescribing is November 1, 2012. This session will describe the exemptions and how to claim one. CMS has switched gears from claims based reporting for these new exemptions.
  • Review of the PQRS program incentives and penalties for 2012 and overview of meaningful use and EMR incentive payments.
  • Minimize compliance risk

Keeping CMS out of your business by staying involved in their business. For every dollar that the OIG spends on compliance, it returns $16.70 to the US Treasury. This session will describe the three most critical compliance activities every manager should perform to minimize compliance risk.

2012 to do’s in ICD-10 implementation. The countdown to ICD-10 has begun. This session will suggest a time line for practices of activities for 2012.

Coding cleanup
CMS issued a handful of transmittals in 2011 that clarified policy about billing for what were consultation services, use of the subsequent observation codes and teaching physician rules. There were no major policy changes: just “clarifications.” Hear a quick review of these.

At the end of this session, participants will:
  • Set their own priorities about participation in the three CMS carrot/stick programs for 2012;
  • Minimize their own compliance risk through three activities;
  • Develop a time line for ICD-10 implementation activities;
