Transition is a natural progression for physicians in a medical practice. At some point, at least one physician will seek to deviate from the work norm of the group, either due to retirement, need for part-time status, or other reason. Medical practices that have a formal transition plan in place have a competitive advantage over other practices in terms of physician recruitment and retention. Not only do the formal transition plans permit physicians to proactively plan for work slowdown, but they also permit the medical practice to ensure its financial health and effectively position itself for the future.
