As I write this, the mid-term elections are about a week away, and the Democrats appear to believe, and most political pundits here in Washington seem to agree, that they will take at least the House of Representatives and perhaps even the Senate. By the time you read this column, you will know if they were correct. The outcome of the elections will most likely have an important effecton what gets accomplished in the “lame-duck” session of the Congress that will take place beginning on November 13. A number of important healthcare issues remain to be resolved in this Congress, and the outcome of the elections will certainly dictate the direction of health policy in the new Congress.
