Six months ago, the polls showed the Republican leader to be Rudy Giuliani and the Democrat leader, by a wide margin, to be Hillary Clinton. John McCain’s campaign was essentially broke. The conventional wisdom was that due to the crush of the early primaries, the nominees would be selected right after “Super Tuesday” on February 5. Well it’s past February 5, and for the Republicans, it looks as if Senator McCain has a commanding delegate count and will be the party’s nominee. Notwithstanding that, Mike Huckabee just trounced McCain in Kansas, and there were close races in Louisiana and Washington. |
