I founded the journal on a hope and a prayer. As a practicing ophthalmologist, my goal was to provide clinicians, practice managers, and medical executives with authoritative insights into the ever-more complex business of medicine. At the outset in 1984, it was not fashionable to consider that medicine had a strong business component. In the intervening years, it has become apparent that any industry that consumes nearly 15 percent of America?s gross domestic product is indeed a major economic factor.
